ISO 4064 is a set of international standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) that specifies requirements and testing methods for water meters used for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. These standards are designed to ensure accurate measurement of water consumption, promote consistency in meter design and performance, and facilitate interoperability between different manufacturers’ products.
ISO 4064 consists of several parts, each addressing different aspects of water metering:
Part 1 : Metrological and technical requirements
Part 2: Test methods
Part 3: Test report format
Part 4: Non-metrological requirements not covered in ISO 4064-1
Part 5: Installation requirements
A 2-year revision process is now reaching its conclusion and a revised version of the standard should be published at the end of August, beginning of September 2024.
It will be followed in the next months by a publication in the Official Journal of the European Union as a Harmonized Standard under the Measuring Instrument Directive (MID 2014/32/EU).
Water meters conforming this Harmonized Standard will then be deemed to respect the MID Essential Requirements.
