The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) has been published in the Official Journal of the EU on 5 July. Here you will find attached the English version available online here. The CS3D is available in the other languages of the EU on the website of the Official Journal of the EU.
The CS3D introduces obligations for large companies and their subsidiaries to counter adverse impacts of their activities on human rights and environmental protection, establishing possible liabilities linked to these obligations.
Next steps:
· The CS3D will enter into force on the 20th day following that of its publication – so on 25th July 2024 whilst its provisions will start to apply according to the following timeline:
· After 3 years from the entry into force of the directive for companies with more than 5 000 employees and €1 500 million turnover
· After 4 years from the entry into force for companies with more than 3 000 employees and €900 million turnover
· After 5 years from the entry into force of the directive for companies with more than 1 000 employees and €450 million turnover
The Member States will have 2 years to transpose the CS3D into national law.
