Communication Working Group: Navigating the Future of Connectivity

Last week, our Communication Working Group convened in Frankfurt and via MS Teams, marking a pivotal moment in our journey towards advancing communication standards in the smart metering industry. Our agenda included the future of connectivity and ensuring our industry remains at the forefront of technological innovation.

Here’s a brief overview of the key topics we discussed:

🔹 CEN TC294 Developments: The latest advancements in the standardization efforts within CEN TC294 were thoroughly examined. These standards are crucial for enhancing interoperability and efficiency across our sector.

🔹 Collaborative Efforts: Our discussion extended to the ongoing collaborations with various working groups and alliances, including OMS AG1—AG4, Task Force Security, OMS 3rd party, WIZE, DVGW, and Afnor GA E17z 901/Guide d’Application. These partnerships are vital for harmonizing efforts and leveraging collective expertise.

🔹 Standard Essential Patents (SEP): We reviewed the impact of recent votes on SEPs, a topic of paramount importance for fostering innovation while ensuring fair access to essential technologies.

🔹 Regulatory Updates: The meeting also covered the latest on the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) Delegated Act and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), highlighting the regulatory landscape’s evolving nature and its implications for our industry.

🔹 3GPP Developments: Lastly, we explored the latest from 3GPP, including a review of the availability of associated silicon. This insight is key to understanding future communication technologies and their integration into our systems.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive innovation and collaboration within the smart metering industry.
